This week, we get down in the weeds with Brian Johnson, a.k.a. @anatomyhunter, to better understand why we sometimes lose whitetails after what seems like a perfect shot. There’s a lot at play here, and Brian is on a mission to help hunters gain deeper insight. As a former taxidermist and wildlife sculptor, Brian has a keen eye for detail—and he’s applied that precision to studying the internal placement of vital organs in relation to the angles from which hunters take their shots. We learned a ton. Brian dives into topics like the infamous “no-man’s-land,” lack of a blood trail, and whether a deer can survive on one lung? Which side of the deer offers the best angle at the liver? Many animals are lost each season, and Brian’s life mission is to help hunters recover more of them. It’s a fascinating discussion. Listen, learn, enjoy
