Did Jesus take on humanity, with all its liabilities? Did our Saviour assume the nature of man with the possibility of yielding to temptation?
Doctrines such as original sin and the immaculate conception of Mary have led many to believe that Christ’s humanity was different to our own. Yet these teachings bear immense ramifications on the sinner’s ability to overcome, while calling into question Christ’s ability to succour, or empathise, with fallen mankind.
In reality, the truth about the human nature of Christ is one of the most transformative and empowering messages in all the Bible. As Paul declares, “we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:15.
