STORY 1: Man shot, killed at event venue in Buford

Gwinnett County police are investigating a fatal shooting at the Love to Dream wedding venue in Buford early Saturday morning. Officers responded to a call at 2:09 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound. Despite attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified, and no suspects have been identified. Police urge anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips may lead to a cash reward.

STORY 2: Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church Hosting Easter Festival On March 29

Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Easter Festival on Saturday, March 29, from 1-4 p.m. at Lawrenceville Elementary School's playground. This free community event features activities like a petting zoo, Easter egg hunts, photos with the Easter Bunny, inflatables, face painting, and more. Egg hunts are open all day, with separate areas for younger and older children, and participants receive goodie bags. Parking is available nearby, with reserved spots for those with mobility needs. STORY 4: Gwinnett man gets three life sentences for molesting 10-year-old girl

Isaiah Esquilin-Perez, 22, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Gwinnett County. Convicted on seven counts, including aggravated child molestation and incest, his crimes were discovered in April 2023 when the victim's parents found incriminating video footage. After fleeing, Esquilin-Perez evaded police for 18 hours before surrendering. He must also register as a sex offender. Gwinnett DA Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed hope for the victim's healing, calling the sentence justice for the family.

STORY 5: Gwinnett legislators drop plan to cut school board member pay for firing superintendents early

Legislation aimed at cutting Gwinnett County school board members' salaries for early superintendent firings has been revised, removing the controversial pay reduction provision. House Bill 767 initially sought to penalize board members financially after costly buyouts for fired superintendents Calvin Watts and J. Alvin Wilbanks. The revised bill now focuses on allowing all board members, not just the chairperson, to speak to the media. Discussions about limiting "lame duck" board actions or superintendent contract extensions were deferred. The board is currently searching for a permanent superintendent, with interim Al Taylor stepping in on April 2.
