What happens in the body when you fast for 3 days is jawdropping. I

n this episode I detail hour by hour exactly what happens inside your body from the moment you take your last bite of food, and in doing so I highlight what the benefits of doing a brief fast like this are to your health.

We talk about your glucose, insulin, and glycogen levels and how they are affected by your fast, plus when and how fat breakdown starts to occur.

We introduce the term ketosis where in response to your fast your liver converts fatty acids into ketone bodies for fuel. After 12 hours glycogen reserves are spent.

We hear about the cell cleaning process called autophagy which is one of the main benefits of fasting, and this kicks in between hours 18 to 24 of fasting.

Mental clarity appears to be one of the additional benefits of fasting too, while insulin sensitivity is also enhanced, which will allow your cells to handle glucose more efficiently once you resume eating.

After 36 hours a regenerative switch flips in your immune system as old white blood cells are broken down. Damaged mitochiondria are cleared out improving cellular efficiency.
