Lukho Mkwedi Phuthi welcomes Richard Jenroud, Head of Marketing at Evotel, to discuss the company’s role in South Africa’s internet landscape. Evotel is a Fiber Network Operator (FNO) that builds and maintains the physical fiber infrastructure—underground cables enabling high-speed internet—but does not sell internet services directly to consumers. Instead, Evotel partners with over 49 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who deliver internet to customers using Evotel’s network. Operating across eight provinces, Evotel focuses on expanding fiber coverage nationwide, especially targeting secondary towns and underserved areas. Their mission is to provide reliable, fast fiber connectivity to all South Africans, supporting initiatives like free fiber for schools and maintaining high network resilience even during loadshedding.
