Albert Mohler: Sanity Prevails
Manage episode 490315983 series 3343739
We saw a win for sanity at the Supreme Court last week as a 6-3 majority of the justices sided with the state of Tennessee in the states ban on so-called transgender treatment for minors.
Tennesseans had overwhelmingly adopted legislation that was challenged in the courts. And, last week, the court found that the law was NOT unconstitutional.
The case is United States v. Skrmetti and it’s particularly important when you consider what would have happened if the court had ruled the other way. It just goes back to the fact that one person gets to nominate justices to the United States Supreme Court.
That person, of course, is the President of the United States.
In his concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas drove home a profoundly important point in his words:
“The court today reserves to the people, their elected representatives and the democratic process, the power to decide how best to address an area of medical uncertainty and extraordinary importance.”
Thankfully, sanity prevailed.
