This is Closet Practice, a podcast for queers of all stripes to share their stories, whether they’re in, out, or out-curious. You can take queer life out of the closet, but you can’t take the closet out of queer life. Maybe, though, we can shine a little light inside.
The very day Kyle’s episode came out a couple weeks ago, he sent me the following text: “My dad wants to record. He loved the episode.” “SHUT THE F*CK UP GURL NO HE DOES NOT” I responded with my customary sangfroid, to which Kyle said, “Like hardcore wants to.” He put us in touch and I’m so glad he did.
As always with me, it’s for mostly selfish reasons. Even the most casual visitor to House of Barbrism knows that I am a recently out gay dad trying to help my bi son flourish in a world that is manifestly different than the one in which I grew up, so I was eager to hear about Icon’s experiences, especially because, as you’ll hear, not just one of his sons is queer, not two, but all three.
Some girls have all the luck.
I had a great time talking with Icon. He seems so comfortable in his own skin, which I envy. My favorite part of our chat is probably his humble brag that young guys find him attractive.
