David Lawrence, author of Are We Biochemical Robots, is a philosophical proponent of free will, opposing the determinist view held by many new media personalities that all things are pre-determined by outside forces. Lawrence wrote his book as a response to the 10th anniversary of Sam Harris’ book Free Will, in an effort to expose the flawed thinking that Harris’ book and determinist idealogy present and to address the central arguments against the existence of human free will. His insights, ideas, and explorations reveal why the great debate between determinism and free will matters. He has a B.A. in philosophy from UCLA and a Jurisdoctor law degree from USC.
