We discuss the definition, source, and many examples of the Mandela Effect. How many do you remember correctly, or incorrectly?
- What amimal laid down with the lamb?
- What color is Pikachu's tale?
- What are the lyrics to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood or Queen's We Are The Champions?
- Why are there so many different Mandela Effects associated with peanut butter?
Episode 19 of I Hate Talking discusses the Mandela Effect, defined as a phenomenon where a large group of people share a false memory of something that did not occur.
Key Points:
- Definition: The Mandela Effect is a type of false memory where many people incorrectly remember the same thing. Some attribute it to altered history or a reprogrammed simulation. The name comes from the false memory that Nelson Mandela died in prison in the 1980s, when he actually passed away in 2013.
- Fruit of the Loom Logo: Many people remember the Fruit of the Loom logo including a cornucopia, but the official logo has always just been the fruit. One theory is that knock-off clothing used the cornucopia logo.
- The Berenstain Bears: Many people remember the Berenstain Bears being spelled "Bernstein" (B-E-R-N-S-T-E-I-N), but it is actually spelled "Berenstain" (B-E-R-E-N-S-T-A-I-N). The name comes from the authors, Stan and Jan Berenstain.
- Star Wars Quote: The famous line "Luke, I am your father" was never said in Star Wars. The actual line is, "No, I am your father."
- "We Are the Champions" Ending: The song "We Are the Champions" does not end with "of the world." It ends with "We are the champions" and then fades out.
- Forrest Gump Quote: The line is "Life was like a box of chocolates," not "Life is like a box of chocolates." The ending of the phrase is "you never know what you're gonna get."
- Pikachu's Tail: Pikachu's tail does not have a black tip; it is solid yellow.
- Bible Verse: Isaiah 11:6 states that "the wolf shall also dwell with the lamb," not the lion. The misremembering of "lion" may come from a 70s/80s song.
- Chick-fil-A Spelling: Many people spell Chick-fil-A as "Chic-fil-A," leaving off the "k" at the end of "Chick."
- Where's Waldo: Waldo's name is actually Wally in the original books. Also, while there are books where Waldo is carrying an item, it is not consistent.
- Totino's Spelling: The pizza roll brand is spelled "Totino's," not "Toastinos."
- "Shazaam" Movie: There was supposedly a movie called "Shazaam" starring Shaq as a genie, but the movie never existed. There was a movie with Shaq, but not one called Shazam.
- Mr. Rogers' Theme Song: The theme song begins with "It's a very beautiful day in this neighborhood," not "It's a very nice day in the neighborhood."
- Sources/Explanations: The hosts suggest that some Mandela Effects occur due to mishearing, misremembering, or misreading something.
Here's the link to the Tinkerbell version mentioned as a possible explanation of Tinkerbell never dotting the "i" in the standard blue & white castle opening: YouTube.
