This week In The Metal returns and we get to do one of the things we have wanted to do from the outset, which was to get a few of our amazing friends to come back once in a while and take an in depth look at a specific facet of the master watchmaker's life.
It might be a complication, it might be the dark art of black polishing or guillochage techniques or cutting the tiny gears and wheels for those extraordinary mechanisms. It could be enamelling, engraving or escapements or anything. There are literally dozens of skills required to create one masterpiece, and we are going in deep to find out about them.
So this week we welcome back a great personal friend and AHCI member John McGonigle, who helped us make our very first outing so much fun.
We will be taking a look at the world of restorations, and at one or two recent projects which John has undertaken on truly magnificent historic pieces.
