If you’re like me you talk to yourself (internally).

And if you’re like me, you beat yourself up for NOT being or doing something or something you did or did not do in your past

And sometimes events of my past haunt me, and internally taunt me telling myself how screwed up I am, and then I begin the downward path toward depression.

In Psalms 42 there seems to be a two-step process the Psalmist uses to bring himself out of the pit of depression. Maybe this will help you as it has helped me.
