Joan is joined by Emily Chertoff, associate law professor at Georgetown University Law Center, who discussed the Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act to justify sweeping deportation powers. The act, originally intended for wartime, is now being applied to individuals the Trump administration asserts are gang members. Lower courts have challenged these actions, and the Supreme Court has temporarily blocked some deportations. Chertoff highlighted the administration's disregard for due process, citing cases of sick children being deported, and emphasized the importance of political activism and legal efforts to protect civil liberties.
