Ep 112 // Lenten Listening Series // John 18 // The Questioning

Welcome back to another episode in our Lenten/Holy Week series as we journey through the Gospel of John. Today, we dive into John 18, a chapter that brings us face to face with the powerful and painful moments leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. This chapter is filled with the raw emotions of betrayal, denial, and the looming storm of what’s to come. Grab your journal and pen as we explore the questioning of Jesus before the authorities, the tension surrounding Peter’s denial, and the ultimate steadfastness of Jesus’ resolve.

Key Moments in John 18:

  • Jesus is betrayed by Judas in the garden, arrested by a Roman military force, and taken to trial.
  • Peter, despite his loyalty, denies Jesus three times as predicted, sinking into shame.
  • Jesus faces interrogation by both the religious and Roman authorities, standing firm in His identity as King.
  • Pilate, struggling with the truth of who Jesus is, questions the very concept of truth itself.

Reflection Time:

As you listen, I encourage you to reflect on what this passage is revealing about Jesus’ steadfast love and purpose, as well as the tension Peter must have felt as he denied Jesus. How does Jesus’ calm and resolve inspire you to stand firm in your faith, even in the midst of trial?

Take a moment to journal about:

  • What stands out to you most in this passage?
  • How can we, like Jesus, remain rooted in our purpose when questioned or pressured by the world around us?

Megan's Personal Reflection:

In this episode, I share my thoughts on the beauty of Jesus’ unshakable resolve, even as He faces the most intense moments of His earthly ministry. The human systems surrounding Him tried to capture and condemn Him, but Jesus stayed true to His divine mission. The reflection on Peter’s denial also challenges us to look inward and ask ourselves when we’ve been tempted to deny Christ in our own lives, especially when it’s hard to stand firm.

Call to Action:

If you’re feeling convicted by the journey through this chapter, I encourage you to pause, reflect, and pray. Ask God to strengthen your resolve and remind you that even in moments of weakness, there is grace to restore and renew you.
