There are various reasons why credit cards have expiration dates. The first is to make room for the actual card's typical wear and tear. (The credit card account does not expire; just the card itself does.) The plastic and the card's chip might deteriorate over time. Your credit card provider will thus issue you a new card at certain intervals typically every three years.
