On this episode of Kraken Cans Cast, we’re cracking open a cold one and diving into one of the most bizarre and haunting true crime cases to come out of Pennsylvania’s coal region—the unsettling tale of the Shamokin Mystery Head. We’re joined by special guest Marc from Beards, Brews and BBQs (go give him a follow on Facebook!) as we explore this twisted piece of local history.

Back in 1904, the headless, naked body of a man was discovered near Shamokin. A reward was offered for the missing head, and when it finally surfaced, it was embalmed after discovery and placed in the window of a local funeral home, drawing curious crowds. Eventually, it was transferred to the Anthracite Heritage Museum, where it remained—until it mysteriously vanished in 1976.

We also dive into the 2024 documentary The Shamokin Mystery Head: A Chet Davis Story, which finally reveals where the head went and why it disappeared, shedding light on a mystery that baffled the region for decades. We react to the film, break down theories, and even discuss a potential identity linked to the head.

It’s a story of crime, curiosity, and coal country folklore you won’t forget.
