Kueen Talk. Today’s guest is Damian Brown — better known as the one and only Brown Sugar! A Wichita State alum with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Damian didn’t wait around for the spotlight — he became it. If you don’t know, baby, you're about to get into it.
We talk about the drag scene in the early 2000s versus now — how back then, drag wasn’t easy to access. It was hidden in the shadows of underground clubs and backroom bars. You had to know where to look, and even then, it was sacred, secret, and raw. Now, with drag entering the mainstream, the world is finally catching up to what we've known all along. But Damian reminds us — not every queen is trying to read to your kids, and that’s okay.
We also dive into the history of The Fantasy Complex — the legendary gay bar in Wichita, Kansas. From 1981 to its closing in 2015, it stood as a sanctuary, a school, a runway, and a second home for many. For Damian, it helped raise him into the unapologetic powerhouse he is today.
