A South Whitehall Township man was shot and killed by police Wednesday afternoon after confronting officers with a rifle outside his home. The Lehigh County District Attorney's Office says cops were called to the home in the 100 block of North 38th Street around 1 p.m. They were confronted by a 73-year-old man armed with a gun. Police say he refused to drop the rifle. He would not stop approaching the officers, so they fired six shots. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
