The genesis of the culture bump theory and steps occurred to Dr. Carol Mae Archer in 1978 as a response to her grappling with her difficulties living in Algeria the previous year. Thus, the eight steps of Culture Bump and its basic foundation were born. Over the past 40 years, Culture Bump has grown in understanding of that initial insight as many people have contributed and developed it.
