In this episode we welcome Linda Harrison, Early Education Content Producer at Learn Play Thrive. All of us here at Learn Play Thrive are passionate about the power of picture books to inspire curiosity and foster a lifelong love of books, reading and learning in young children. As Central Coast Regional Director of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Linda is a strong advocate for quality children’s literature and the use of picture books as a fundamental teaching tool in responsive early childhood pedagogy and practice. That's why we're thrilled to announce the launch of the Learn Play Thrive Little Library podcast bonus series!
This episode features the picture book Goodnight Sheep, authored by Sally Barton, illustrated by Cherie Dignam and published by Fremantle Press. Linda takes a deep dive into the story’s themes and shares ways educators can use the book to promote children’s language, literacy and learning across the curriculum. You’ll discover these interactive, book-based experiences for children to further engage with the story through play and promote deeper understandings:

- Goodnight Sheep pretend play
- Mindfulness and bedtime calming rituals
- Counting puppet show
- Making musical instruments

Find out more:
Borrow Goodnight Sheep from your local library or purchase from your local bookshop from 1st April 2025. The book can also be purchased here at https://fremantlepress.com.au/books/goodnight-sheep/
