Exploring Flight, Fight, Freeze with Vinny Maltz and Me
Manage episode 486626935 series 2644414
This week, I sit down with my friend and mental preparation expert, Vincent Maltz, to explore a powerful and often misunderstood phenomenon in high-performance sport: how pressure can derail both individuals and teams.
When pressure mounts, it can trigger a threat response in the brain, activating neurological and psychological patterns rooted in fear. The result? Fight, flight, or freeze. For individual athletes, it shows up as choking, the yips, or “squeezing the stick.” For teams, it’s that haunting feeling when they just don’t show up.
We dig into the underlying mechanisms behind these moments, and what it takes to build athletes and teams who can face fear, step into it, and perform.
It’s a fascinating conversation with a brilliant mind. I really enjoyed it—and I think you will too. Cheers!
