Is video an important part of podcasting? Yes.

But can you produce an audio-only podcast in 2025 and beyond and expect it to be successful? YES!

In this episode of Let's Blow This Up from the Season 3 Co-Host Collective, I'm joined by Traci DeForge of the Podcast Professionals Association and Produce Your Podcast to challenge the growing pressure for podcasters to include video in their podcast operations.

Contrary to what you probably hear A LOT, you're about to discover why audio-only shows still thrive and, no matter what, the power of audio remains unshaken.

Traci and I share our own journeys producing successful podcasts long before video was even a consideration - talking candidly about how creators can feel overwhelmed by video and why that shouldn't be the norm for everyone.

We unpack when it actually does make sense to add video...like when it complements your goals and adds genuine value, not just because it's trendy. If video excites you and energizes your process, go for it...but it should never be a burden.

Consider this episode your permission slip to create your podcast in the way that works best for you. We want podcasters to feel empowered, not pressured, and to lean into what makes their show sustainable, fun, and effective.

Key Takeaways:

  • Audio-only podcasts are still highly effective and widely consumed.
  • You don’t need video to grow a successful podcast or connect with your audience.
  • Many seasoned podcasters started and succeeded without ever turning on a camera.
  • Video should only be utilized if it genuinely supports your vision and energy.
  • Feeling forced to use video can lead to burnout and can inadvertently make you a lazy podcaster.
  • Success in podcasting is about consistency, authenticity, and choosing the right format for you.
