Most New Podcasters F*ck Up This One Easy Thing
Manage episode 474916636 series 3555776
Let's jump into another episode from The Solo Series here on Season 3 of Let's Blow This Up! In this installment, I'm breaking down one of the biggest mistakes new podcasters make when they're preparing their show for launch.
It's the trailer.
Many creators treat their trailer like an afterthought instead of the powerful marketing tool it should be. Instead, a trailer should be compelling, informative, and hook listeners so they subscribe and look forward to the episodes to come.
A great trailer sets the stage for your podcast, giving potential listeners a taste of what to expect. Instead of a generic intro that acts like nothing more than a placeholder, it's in your best interest to create something that excites, engages, and makes people want more.
One of the best ways to do this is by using clips from your already-recorded content, creating a highlight reel or mashup that gives new listeners an inside look at moments from your show that leave someone wanting more.
Key Takeaways:
- Your trailer should excite listeners and encourage them to subscribe.
- Avoid treating your trailer as just a placeholder—it’s your first impression.
- A strong trailer clearly communicates what your podcast is about and who it’s for.
- Using clips from your leading episodes that you've already recorded can make your trailer more dynamic and engaging.
- A highlight reel or mashup helps showcase your podcast’s energy and style.
- The right trailer can be a game-changer for growing your audience.
NOTE: In this episode, I mentioned manually uploading episodes to Apple, Spotify, etc. And as I was publishing this, I pondered: Is that even possible? These platforms pull content from an RSS feed that your host provides, so manually uploading episodes may not even be a thing. In 10+ years of podcasting, it's never even dawned on me to try it. So...there's that. Carry on.
