In this episode, we are going to talk about Communication! First, we’re going to talk about what communication is and the many technical aspects involved. Then I’ll mention some tips for how to improve your communication. This episode is really detailed and full of important information. I’m going to try to chunk it down as much as possible!

Good communication means that:

  • People feel listened to and heard
  • Others understand them
  • Essential information gets to the people who need it when they need it
  • And it speaks both to the content of the message and the relationship of those communicating with each other

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Barriers: For the sender these can include the message being unclear, indirect, untimely, or it contains distracting information. For the receiver they include distractions or selective attention, personal motives, or negative perceptions
  • Filters: Interests, Vocabulary, Motives, Emotional State, Cultural Backgrounds, Assumptions, Experiences
  • Active Listening: Acknowledging, Encouraging, Reflecting, Clarifying, Paraphrasing, Asking, Summarizing, Validating
  • Active Listening Blocks: Comparing, Rehearsing, Judging, Identifying, Sparring, Derailing, Mind Reading, Filtering, Dreaming, Advising, Being Right, Placating

BEST MOMENTS

Communication is the lifeline of any relationship – Elizabeth Bourgeret
