The Moon card is associated with mysticism, the occult, and the oceanic expanse of the unconscious mind. Despite its name, it is actually ruled by Neptune, and is the card of Pisces. While all tarot cards relate to the mind and the unconscious in some way, The Moon in particular can be linked to the practice of active imagination and the interface with the unconscious that it facilitates. Carl Jung himself, under the Taroscopic system, would be considered a Pisces-rising. The Moon represents the exploration of the subconscious and the pull between surface reality and deeper, murky layers of the unconscious. In this active imagination exercise, we will explore the energies of The Moon card and our relationship to the mystical and the occult, whilst also becoming aware of the dangers of escapism and fantasy.

Active Imagination is a technique developed by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung for engaging with the unconscious mind. Jung considered Active Imagination to be the most powerful way to access the unconscious mind and a vital technique for attaining wholeness of personality.
