Eli Beer is a pioneer, social entrepreneur, President and Founder of United Hatzalah of Israel. In thirty years, the organization has grown to more than 6,500 volunteers who unite together to provide immediate, life-saving care to anyone in need - regardless of race or religion. This community EMS force network treats over 730,000 incidents per year, in Israel, as they wait for ambulances and medical attention. Eli’s vision is to bring this life-saving model across the world. In 2015, Beer expanded internationally with the establishment of branches in South America and other countries, including “United Rescue” in Jersey City, USA, where the response time was reduced to just two minutes and thirty-five seconds. Cinemas are reopening soon, but what will they be showing? We discuss the state of cinemas in the UK, from the big chains like Odeon and Vue to the lil' independents. We originally recorded this episode before the announcement that Tenet is going to screen this summer, so please listen out for Tim's lovely pre-podcast announcement. We each run through what we've been watching in quarantine, and give some recommendations for great shows you can catch at the moment on streaming channels like BBC Iplayer and Netflix. And Tim goes on a one-man defence rant about the "Pirates of the Carribean" franchise. You can catch shows like "Athlete A", "How To Fix A Drug Scandal", "Parts Unknown" and the movie "Sour Grapes" on Netflix. "I May Destroy You" is on BBC Iplayer and both "Pirates of the Carribean" and "The Imagineering Story" are on Disney+.…
Cinemas are reopening, but this week everyone has been talking about the release of "Hamilton" on Disney+, a filmed version of the popular stage show. Excuse the wonky audio on ju's mic for the first half of the recording, she tried to use a mic whilst sat on a duvet and CLEARLY sitting at a desk is better. The recording is an edited together version of three performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016. It stars the original cast, including Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr and Phillipa Soo. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, “Hamilton” tells the life story of one of the USA's founding father, Alexander Hamilton. Between someone who's seen the musical twice (Tim), and someone who has never seen it (Ju), we discuss whether this was a successful recording of the popular stage show. "Hamilton" is available on Disney+ from July 3 2020.…
We might be a little late to get this episode to you - but we've a bumper double bill of comedies. Welcome to episode 10 of Managed Expectations with film fans Ju Shardlow and Tim Kennington. With fewer films being released at the moment and trips to the cinema only a distant memory, we covered TWO movies for some bumper fun content. First is "The King of Staten Island", directed by Judd Apatow ("Trainwreck", "Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin"), from a screenplay by Apatow, Pete Davidson, and Dave Sirus. It stars Pete Davidson as Scott Carlin, a 24-year old Staten Islander and wannabe tattoo artist. Scott struggles to come to terms with the fact that his mother (Marisa Tomei) is dating a firefighter (the same job his deceased father kept). "The King of Staten Island" is available now on Amazon Prime, Google and YouTube. Second up is "EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: The Story Of Fire Saga", directed by David Dobkin and written by Will Ferrell and Andrew Steele. When aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit (Rachel McAdams) are given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for. "EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: The Story Of Fire Saga" is available now on Netflix.…
