Welcome to the Marriage Talk Podcast - Ep 186 - Your Guide To Arguing Properly

Dr. Gary Smalley had some great tips for couples when they

argue. They are:

1. Don’t escalate the argument. This seems simple enough, but we all do it. So, next time you start to argue, step back, take a deep breath and count to 10.

2. Don’t withdraw from the argument. Disagreeing actually means you care. Oft en withdrawing from an argument doesn’t make the problem go away.

3. Don’t belittle your spouse. Name calling is a verbal hand grenade for your marriage. Words like, “you’re so stubborn,” or, “you’re such a brat,” can never solve an argument.

4. Don’t project on your spouse something they are not. If your husband isn’t ready to buy a new couch, don’t call him cheap. If your wife wants a new dress, don’t call her a diva.
