(Part 1 of a 2 part interview) Our guest this week is Caila Litman. Caila is a journalist, producer, Marketing & Brand Development Manager championing audio in the corporate world. Caila is passionate about the power of audio and has dedicated her career to promoting and educating people about podcasting.
We read an article Caila wrote and immediately became fascinated with the concept. Caila wrote that podcasts are lifestyle brands.
Here are a few takeaways from our conversation with Caila:
- Mindset: You have to believe that your podcast is a lifestyle brand so that you can create content and promote your podcast in such a way that people WANT to have you as part of their personal identity
- Millennial culture is dominated by social media and people signaling what they value by what they purchase & consume.
- What you consume & what you like is a big part of your identity- podcasts become part of that identity.
- As a podcaster, think about how you want to reach your audience like Lulu Lemon does- what do you want to present to the world/what do you care about/what is your personal brand?
- The whole idea of fitting in is not as valuable to the new generation- what do people really care about? How has society shifted?
