Aftab’s blog: https://aftabrahman.wordpress.com/ Exhibition celebrating 50 years of Bangladesh: https://freedom50.co.uk/blog/ Right, welcome back! This week, I sit with Aftab Rahman. Aftab tells me more about the history of Bangladesh and its fight for independence from current day Pakistan, including a brief history on Operation Searchlight; a military operation that led to the deaths of up to 3 million Bangladeshi’s and forced 10 million to seek refuge in India. Following the birth story of Bangladesh, Aftab discusses his own struggles: leaving his mum in Bangladesh and moving to England as a child, the bullying and racism he was subjected to by both English people and other ethnic minorities when he arrived, the poor relationship he had with his father and his father’s second wife, and so much more! I hope this podcast episode serves as a reminder of the huge benefits of diversity, but also how, despite the adversities he faced in his childhood, Aftab has still managed to achieve his life goal to help and serve.
