U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “not happy” with Russian President Vladimir Putin following Russia’s deadly large-scale strike on Ukraine overnight on May 25.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with him,” Trump told reporters on Sunday, as quoted by Reuters. “What the hell happened to him? Right? He’s killing a lot of people. I’m not happy about that.”

He also said he is considering stepping up sanctions against Russia, Reuters reported.

Writing on Truth Social the same day, Trump said he had “always had a very good relationship” with Putin, but that “something has happened to him.”

“He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump wrote.

He stated that if Putin attempts to seize all of Ukraine, it could lead to “the downfall of Russia.”

In the same post, Trump also criticized Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian president “is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does.” “I don’t like it, and it better stop,” said Trump, without specifying which statements he was referring to.

On the night of May 24–25, Russian forces launched nearly 300 drones and 70 missiles at targets across Ukraine. Thirteen regions were hit, leaving at least 12 people dead and dozens injured. According to Reuters, it was the largest drone and missile strike on Ukrainian territory since the start of the full-scale war.
