Donald Trump’s social media post criticizing Vladimir Putin over Russia’s attacks on Ukraine over the weekend was the result of “emotional overload,” the Kremlin said on Monday.
“The launch of the negotiations process, which the American side worked very hard to make happen, is a major achievement. We are truly grateful to the Americans and personally to President Trump. […] At the same time, this is a very sensitive moment, and emotions are running high for everyone, which explains some of the reactions,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov in response to a journalist’s question about Trump’s post.
Peskov added that Putin is “making the decisions needed to ensure the security of our country.”
In the social media post in question, Trump said that "something has happened to Putin" and that the Russian president "has gone absolutely CRAZY!" He also wrote that Putin is "needlessly killing a lot of people," and specifically that he was "not just talking about soldiers."
