Russia’s Sports Ministry has drafted a new set of federal standards for training esports athletes, replacing two earlier versions of the document that were never adopted, the newspaper Kommersant reports.
The proposal, which was published on the ministry’s official legal portal, outlines general and specialized fitness benchmarks for aspiring esports players. To receive an entry-level qualification, candidates will have to complete a series of physical tests, including:
- a 30-meter (98-foot) sprint (5.8 seconds for boys, 6.1 for girls),
- shuttle runs (three 10-meter/32-foot sprints),
- push-ups (12 for boys, six for girls),
- seated forward bends,
- 31 or 27 sit-ups depending on gender
They’ll also have to pass a “click test,” hitting the left mouse button at least 180 times in 30 seconds using their dominant hand, according to Kommersant. More advanced levels will require completing a 60-meter (197-foot) sprint as well.
Organizations authorized to train esports athletes will also be required to provide proper athletic gear and cover travel and accommodation costs for competitions.
The new standards could come into force in January 2026.
