U.S. President Donald Trump said he spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. According to him, the call lasted about an hour and 15 minutes.
The two leaders reportedly discussed Ukraine’s recent drone strikes on Russian military air bases, as well as “other attacks” carried out by both sides. “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
According to Trump, Putin spoke “very strongly,” saying he would “have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
The two also reportedly discussed Iran and nuclear weapons. “I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement,” Trump wrote. “President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion.”
Update: Donald Trump briefly deleted his post about speaking with Vladimir Putin from his social media platform, Truth Social, but soon reposted it without any changes. It’s unclear why the post was taken down and then restored.
The Kremlin has yet to release its own account of the conversation.
The June 4 call marked the fourth between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin since Trump returned to the White House. Their last conversation took place on May 19.
