Surf's up, coastal adventurers, but not in the way you might hope! This is your high-risk beach warning for the New York metro coastline. Mother Nature's throwing some serious attitude today with choppy waters and challenging conditions.
From Brooklyn to the Hamptons, we're looking at a uniform surf zone forecast that screams caution. Expect cloudy skies, a chance of rain, and surf heights hovering around 3 to 4 feet. Winds are cranking from the east at 15 to 20 miles per hour, creating treacherous rip current conditions.
Temperatures are sitting in the upper 60s both in the air and water, which might tempt some thrill-seekers. But listen up: today is NOT the day for ocean adventures. The National Weather Service has issued a high rip current risk until 6 PM, which means life-threatening water conditions across all beaches from Coney Island to Fire Island.
If you're thinking about testing the waters, stop right there. Rip currents are likely to catch even experienced swimmers off guard. Your safest bet is to stay on the sand, enjoy the moody coastal scenery, and save your swim for another day.
Pro tip: If you absolutely must enter the water and get caught in a rip current, remember to stay calm, float, and signal for help. Never try to swim against the current.
Beach forecast resumes in 2025 before Memorial Day weekend. Stay safe, stay smart, and respect the ocean's power today.
