Beach Bums and Wave Watchers, listen up! The National Weather Service is dropping some serious surf zone warnings for the New York coastal areas today.
If you're thinking about catching waves or hitting the beaches from Brooklyn to the Hamptons, here's the deal: Rip currents are no joke right now. We're talking HIGH risk until 6 PM, which means staying OUT of the water is your safest bet.
The surf is rolling in around 3 to 4 feet with cloudy skies and a chance of rain. Temperatures are hovering in the upper 60s, and those eastern winds are cranking between 15 and 20 miles per hour. Not exactly prime beach day conditions.
Our surf temperatures are chilling in the mid to upper 60s, and the UV index is low, so if you do venture out, you won't need much sunscreen. But seriously, let's talk about those rip currents. They're life-threatening right now.
Pro tip: If you somehow find yourself caught in a rip current, don't panic and fight the current. Relax, float, and if possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. Can't escape? Face the shore and wave or yell for help.
Bottom line: Today is a day for beach walks, not beach swimming. Grab a hot coffee, enjoy the moody ocean views, and live to surf another day. Beach safely, friends!
