Surf's up, beach lovers! Get ready for a Memorial Day weekend that's looking pretty sweet along the New York coastline. Today's bringing some moderate action with surf heights hitting 2 to 3 feet and a rip current risk that'll keep you on your toes.
We're looking at mostly sunny skies with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 60s. Those west winds around 10 to 15 mph will give you a nice coastal breeze, but watch those rip currents. Lifeguards recommend staying within sight and swimming smart.
Surf temperature is sitting in the mid 50s, so you might want that wetsuit. The UV index is moderate, so don't forget your sunscreen. High tides are rolling in early morning - Coney Island at 6:43 AM, Rockaway at 6:37 AM, and Jones Inlet at 6:27 AM.
Memorial Day is looking even mellower. Surf heights dropping to around 1 foot with a low rip current risk. Northwest winds will be gentle, shifting to southwest in the afternoon. Temperatures holding steady in the mid to upper 60s with that gorgeous mostly sunny forecast.
Looking ahead, Tuesday brings partly sunny skies and mild temperatures. Wednesday and Thursday might see some cloudy conditions with a chance of showers, so keep an eye on those changing conditions.
Pro tip: Always swim near a lifeguard, bring a flotation device, and if you get caught in a rip current, stay calm and float - don't fight the current. Stay safe and enjoy those waves!
