On April 21st, 1907 the Chicago Tribune published a story of a Russian steamer called The Parrier docked off the coast of Santa Monica, California. The crew aboard the ship had been attacked by some unseen force driving them mad forcing them to take their own lives or that of their crewmates.
Several decades later the same thing happened aboard the Ivan Vassili forcing the ship to be docked and unused. The story appearing in The Minneapolis Star on April 14th, 1940. But did any of this actually happen? And if not why are two ships reported in newspapers as having succumbed to the same invisible terror?
