Terms Learned in This Episode:

Organ: A special part inside a body with an important job to do.

Cerebrum: The biggest part of the brain, made of four lobes, where we do most of our thinking.

Cerebellum: “Little Cerebrum.” Controls muscle movement.

Brainstem: Connects our brain to the rest of our body, through the spinal cord, so our brain can send and receive messages to work with our body.

Nervous System: A system in our bodies made of our brain, nerves, and spinal cord that sends and receives messages throughout the body so we can do everything we do.

Neurons: Special cells in or used by the brain to help send and receive messages.

Synapses: Tiny spaces between neuron cells where the cells communicate with each other and pass along information.

Neurotransmitter: Chemical messengers used to pass information from one neuron cell to another.

Neuroplasticity: The brain’s ability to form new or strengthen existing neuron connections. The brain can change and grow.
