Today, we’re visiting Gateway National Recreation Area—the fourth most visited national park unit of 2024, with nearly 9 million visitors. Spanning both New York and New Jersey, Gateway is historically one of the most visited national park units with over 400 million visitors since the park’s creation. We discuss the natural beauty of the area, learning about the formation and geological history of the area, the diverse plants and animals that inhabit the area, the park's establishment, how to access the park, and work through a Junior Ranger activity together.

Junior Rangers are explorers, learning all about the park’s ecosystems, plants and animals, and how to protect nature. The Junior Ranger program is not just for kids; it's for the young, and the young at heart!
