Jesus didn’t simply HAVE the best explanation for God. Jesus IS the best explanation for God. In Part 2 of "The Fundamental List," Ken teaches how Jesus illustrates and demonstrates for us what God is like.

From God's point of view, your purpose is very simple. Just as a grape vine must do, the main purpose of our lives is to produce fruit. Even more fundamental of a lesson, we must never forget that the owner of the vineyard is in charge, in control, and focused on receiving as much fruit as possible from his vineyard.…

The Gospel of John is the clearest book in the New Testament on how to receive a forever relationship with God (John 3:16; John 20:31). Throughout the gospel comes 7 “I AM” statements that express who Jesus is and how Jesus relates to humanity. When Jesus makes these 7 statements about himself, he is connecting an Old Testament story from Exodus 3 about how God gives Moses his proper name “Yahweh” or “I Am”. When Jesus proclaims himself as the "Light of the World," it's not just a metaphorical statement; it's a powerful declaration of his ability to illuminate our lives, guide us through darkness, and reveal the truth, much like the physical phenomenon of light dispels shadows and reveals the world around us; this concept, when examined alongside scientific understanding of light, provides a striking illustration of the divine nature of Christ and the transformative power of his grace, particularly as seen in the Gospel of John's story of forgiveness and redemption.…

Doubt doesn't have to be an off-ramp to faith. In fact, it's a natural part of the journey.
No matter if our current season of life is easy or difficult, we strive to fix our eyes on Jesus instead of our circumstances.
When life doesn’t turn out the way we hope, it can cause us to doubt God’s goodness. But many times, it’s in the midst of our circumstances that we better understand God’s presence.

When we are rushing out the door on a trip... we often rattle off last things on "The List." The author of Hebrews is doing the same thing making sure everything is said about life being "Just Jesus" before he says his goodbyes. Hebrews 13 is a fascinating reminder of what NewCommunity in Christ is all about. Join us as we end the book listening to the final advice about life being just about Jesus.…
Stephen R. Covey in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, has as his second principle: "Begin with the end in mind." No chapter in the Bible reflects this value more than Hebrews chapter 12. This chapter is challenging, thought provoking insulting and sometime scary as to the vision of what the end of our life will be like. It has nothing to do with our salvation but everything to do with our inheritance. Come join us Sunday as we dive deep into what "A Life Rewarded" actually looks like.…
When we read about the amazing people of faith in the Bible, we often forget that those great recorded moments are only a small percentage of their lives. Most of the days of Jesus, Peter, Paul, Mary, Ruth and David were average and mundane. While the great faith stories for all of us are fast and furious... it's the day to day living that God often uses to test our spiritual faith. Come Sunday and learn how to become a better "marathon runner" and learn to endure the normal average days as well.…
Sometimes there are certain Bible words or theological terms that seem abstract and hard to understand. But when it comes to faith... NOT SO! The author of Hebrews actually spends more time telling us how TO DO faith than defining what FAITH IS. No better chapter in the entire Bible gives us an explanation filled with practical and historical answers from great believers in the past. Join us Sunday as we dive into how to LIVE faith in order to achieve a REWARDED life!…
Describing faith and doing faith are two different things! Some things in life are just easier to show than explain. The author of Hebrews says "This is what faith must be." It's just easier to show you how it's done than teach it. So in the famous chapter in the Bible about faith, Hebrews 11, the author gives illustration after illustration and story after story to convince us to be one of the greats and "Do faith!" Join us today as we learning quickly what FAITH IS so that in turn we can go DO FAITH!…
Warnings in life lead to one of two conclusions: 1) Safety, peace and triumphal living or 2) "Crash & burn" living because we did not heed to life's warnings. Hebrews chapter 10 was written to encourage us to live a life that despite the hardships, trials and mistakes we make God is always there to encourage us to live strong, break down walls and follow Christ despite the set backs.…
We take a break from Hebrews as Pastor Ken celebrates welcoming his 4th grandchild. Here Pastor Ethan discusses Prayer, what it is, what its value is, and how we can and should seek connection with our Father in heaven on everything in our life.
Without ever knowing it... we were born wanting to do the Old Testament LAW. The law encapsulates our desire to do things on our own, figure out our own life and be self sufficient. The Law was a better system that how God administered his grace before Moses...but it generally had only 3 purpose and none of them ever gave out the grace that Jesus does for us today. Come Sunday and learn how we can say to God with complete confidence: "Lord, you will... will be my will."…

The topic of rewards in heaven is the least preached topic in the Bible yet the most mentioned topic when it comes to the motivation of the Christian in living right in a wrong world. Rewards, inheritance and the rule of the believers are mentioned more than salvation verses in the Bible! The author of Hebrews leans on this topic of reward more frequently than any other author in the New Testament. Join us today as we look at seven ways one may gain reward when focusing their spiritual life on Just Jesus!…

In order for us to understand God, he gives us a lot of word pictures in the Bible about who He is and what He came to do for us. God calls himself "Father" and those who believe in His Son... "Children." Jesus is called the "Groom" and the church is called the "Bride." The church is also called the "Body" and Christ is called the "Head." The Apostle Paul takes this word picture of the body and uses one anthropological word to help us gain where we need to be to grow in Christ... the HEART. Come Sunday and learn why the heart is not only the center-point of our physical survival but for our spiritual survival as well!…
Most people understand the importance of monitoring the physical condition of their heart.Jesus taught that the spiritual and emotional condition of the heart is what’s most important in this life. Your heart is the control center. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The goal of a follower of Jesus should be to allow our hearts to break for the things that break God’s heart. When you are faced with another person in a tough situation or in desperate need, how does your heart respond? Do you feel_____?…
Monitoring the physical condition of our hearts is important, but what about the spiritual condition of our hearts? As it turns out, both the physical and emotional health of our hearts have a common adversary— our appetites. Only two words exist in the language of appetites: MORE and NOW, especially when it comes to how we view money and possessions. Jesus has a different perspective. He encourages us not to store up our treasures on earth, but instead to store our treasures in heaven. There is a very real battle between what we want now and what we want most, and we have a choice to make—will our hearts be set on NOW or LATER?…

Listen in this week as Jess gives some amazing truths about how you may soften your heart and enjoy life more!!…
Monitoring the physical condition of your heart is important, but what about the spiritual condition of your heart? In Matthew 15:10-20, Jesus teaches that it’s the words we say that reveals what is in our hearts. Monitoring the nature of your own words can actually help us monitor the condition of our hearts. When it comes to your heart, do you hear yourself?…

For most of us our "To Do" list is always bigger than our "To Be" list. WHAT we do matters more to us than WHO we are... until a crisis enters our life and a flaw is exposed. The author of Hebrews in chapter 3 gives us three "Axioms" or rules of life to live by which surprisingly leads us to live to a bold and blessed life. Passage: Hebrews 1:1-13 Title: The God of Angel Armies If ever there was a greater being than man himself, it would be in the angelic world. All of our lives we have been facinated by super heroes, miracle stories, angel sitings and may even have dabbled in fortune telling and ouija boards. Most religions have an "angelic being" responding with greater revelation. It is natural for our human nature to long for something greater in the spiritual world. Come Sunday and learn why Just Jesus is all you need for your answers to the question regarding what the spiritual world is all about.…
Often in life we get so busy, preoccupied and distracted that we forget what really matters in life and in the afterlife. Yet in those moments in solemn solitude when we pause and reflect what really makes a difference, we conclude it's Just Jesus. Why? Because is the ultimate model of how to live for today, how to live despite our sin and how to keep pressing on and be "successful at life" is Jesus... Just Jesus! Join us in this series in the book of Hebrews as we learn to live "Jesus Jesus" in the present so that He in turn will impact our future.…
It's been said that "If Jesus isn’t the center of your world you will put something else in his place." The things that you replace Jesus with will let you down and not last forever. C.S. Lewis has said "The first step towards hell is pride. The first step towards Heaven is humility. Pride is the national religion of hell!" The problem with pride is that we just can't "sniff it out"! It's like bad breath, everyone know you've got a problem except for yourself! Come and learn how the pride that so easily slips into our lives can be eradicated by a simple humble heart of serving others!…
As Christians it is so easy to follow exactly the way the world does things. Our kids even say "Well everyone else is doing it!" The iron is that often as children of God we say the same statement to God himself! We chase after power, pleasure, & popularity to fill a hole in our soul that we know will not last. In our world today, the most tempting solution for happiness comes in the form of money. We literally "buy into the lie" that the more we have the happier we will become. Listen & learn the dangers of this lie and discover the ironic truth of what will really make you fulfilled in life!…
When we hear the word "idol," many of us think of a statue that one worships and/or reminds them of a great religious leader. In ancient times, Kings were thought of as gods and insisted their people make worship icons in their own image. Today our idols are more subtle. They are packaged in who we are, what we do, what we spend and the things that give us the greatest pleasure. The Bible surprisingly teaches that while God commands we don't make up statues of who he is he has provided an image of himself. We are that image! And when we are spirit filled, his glory shines for all to see.…

Anytime the rich & famous make their presence known to our town it's done with press releases, ads and lots of marketing through social media. Rarely do the rich and famous make appearances in a quiet normal way. How much more did the God of the universe deserve fanfare at His coming! But Christ didn’t arrive with a Kings entrance of pomp and circumstance. He didn’t demand an announcement for the whole world to hear, though He deserved it. Jesus arrived in the most humble way possible — as a baby. Come let us adore him on our Christmas Eve services.…
The Brits say "Happy Christmas!," in Mexico you say "Feliz Navidad" & in America you say "Merry Christmas". And while this season definitely can bring happiness and a merry heart, what most people are really looking for is that sustained feeling of when hope and peace come together in you one's heart. EVERYONE calls that moment JOY!! Listen in as we share the secret of how we all might experience a "Joyful Christmas" this year.…
Peace... seems like everyone wants it but nobody has it! For the most part, there is an absence of peace all around us. Uncertainty, financial fear & people hating on each other are everywhere as we look in the increasingly unpredictable society we live in. The amazing truth is that this angst has always existed in the world with seemingly no great answer... UNTIL... an angel appeared to a Savior and proclaimed, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Listen in as we learn why there is only one true Person that can really bring us peace.…
On December 25th, we are reminded of the most important event in history, the birth of Jesus Christ. Even though society does its best to remove any reminders of His birthday. We instead, cloud them with traditions, parties, or gifts. We diminish the purpose of Christmas with fillers rather than fulfilling them with the most important point of it all, the birth of our Savior. This Christmas, let’s shift our focus from the conventional standards of what we believe Christmas should be like, and refocus on the gift that was given to us, that will forever change the importance of This Christmas.…
Any time the world is full of angst, war and ugliness, there is no shortage of sensationalism. From doomsday predictions to know it all “prophecy nerds” explaining their latest end time theories about the Antichrist, Bible prophecy is elevated. Even so, at times it seems there’s more confusion than clarity. But this is not the way God intended it. This week's message starts with how to interpret moves with looking at 5 prophecies specifically for Israel and ends with how this must bring changes in our own lives. Join us…
No other nation or people group in world history has been persecuted, ethnically cleansed, discriminated against and maltreated "as much as" and "as long as" Israel and Jews have existed. In our culture today that have been maligned, ignored and protested against. But why? Why such Israel hate? Join us as we look at what the Bible has to say historically and doctrinally regarding how the Christian should treat Israel today.…
Israel was miraculously voted in as a nation in 1948 by a majority vote in the U.N. While the stories of public outcry to help 250,000 Jews post-holocaust helped, what is even more stunning is prophecy that Isaiah writes about thousand of years before this inaugurating event. This Sunday come learn that God not only cares for a small little country in Palestine... but how he also cares for you as well.…
Why does God want to bless Israel? What is His purpose in doing so? If God made a promise to Abraham and He is faithful to that promise, how does he intend to do this? When we do pray for Israel and the Middle East how do we pray for a group of people who largely hate each other? Join us this Sunday as we learn to unconditionally love, unconditionally pray and faithfully trust God who is spiritually in control despite the evil, hurt and pain that this world causes... and all through the power of prayer!…
Why Israel? Why did God select a country no bigger than the size of New Hampshire to be His nation? Why do the for major religions of the world stake claim to Jerusalem? Why are all the most powerful nations in the world interested in a nation that is infinitely smaller? The answer to all these questions can only be found in the Bible. Come learn why you will never begin to untangle the “Middle East Mess” until you gain a Biblical, not a political, theology of Israel.…
Every year we join together with hundreds of churches around the country and world in an effort to impact a difference on our local communities, to put our preverbal words into action and demonstrate Jesus calling in our lives to GIVE, to SERVE, and to LOVE. Be Rich is so much more than this annual reminder of our calling, Be Rich is a regular part of who we are as a church at New Community. We believe that God works most through our generosity. He works in and on our hearts, in our lives, and in the lives of those we are generous towards. That is why we commit to giving out to our community and other partners around the world each and every month of the year under the same calling of Be Rich... to Give, Serve, and Love.…
Passage: 4:2-18 If someone were to summarize your life, character, and ministry, what might they say? In the final section of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he does this very thing while writing from prison. In this study, we will examine our own lives to see what the Holy Spirit might have to say to us individually. We will also consider the people in our lives who have been a blessing and a help to us, to whom we may even choose to write a letter of gratitude.…
Passage: 3:18-4:1 The greatest "cuss word" in our culture is the S word... as in SUBMIT! Nobody wants to follow anybody else. We are all "jockeying for positions of leadership and authority." But what happens when we get there? The key to leadership is not the power but in the ability to serve. Listen and learn how to be in authority like Jesus our Master, and under authority like Jesus our Servant.…
Passage: Colossians 3:12-17 Being like Christ has this great (and true) assumption that it begins with our heart and our relationship with Jesus. The good news is that the apostle Paul doesn't leave us with just an idea... he gives us 5 practical steps to getting there! Listen and learn about the "Doing behind the Being!"…
Passage: Colossians 3:1-11 The great frustration as a Christian isn’t that they know Jesus is in them. The great frustration is once I become a Christian what do I do about the sin thing? If Christ is in me… Why am I still blowing it!? What’s broke? Why do I still go back to the same sins I had before I knew Christ? What’s broken? The apostle Paul in chapter 3 gives us a great truth we often forget to help us encounter that "sin thing!"…
Passage: Colossians 2:16-23 There are 3 counterfeits to Christianity that Paul not so tenderly blows up: lawmaking legalism, hippie mysticism, and minimalist asceticism. Too often, religious error takes itself too seriously, and God not seriously enough. Listen and learn why Jesus Christ as better than our silly pursuits at filling the gap between us and God with morality, spirituality, or suffering.…
Passage: Colossians 2:8-15 Religion is seductive. There is a religion that meets the needs of everyone's sin driven appetites. Religion will appease to how you think. It will appease the dark side of your heart. It will suggest the things you want to do… are actually ok! You deserve them. And there are religions that will argue with sound values of why you can do what you want to do. Listen in and hear why the Apostle Paul warns us that is is equally import to know who Christ is NOT as it is to know who he is.…
Passage: Colossians 2:1-7 Blurb: The most debated topic in the world is about Jesus Christ. Who he is and what he has done. Our view Jesus today will impact our tomorrow… because of who he claimed to be and what he claimed to do! Listen in to this message and learn why all of Jesus is all I need.…

Passage: Colossians 1:15-29 Blurb: The knowledge of God is like the ocean and our knowledge of God is like a Coke bottle filled with ocean water. The apostle Paul reiterates this great mystery when he explains why we only benefit when we make Christ preeminent!…

The hardest/easiest discipline mentioned in the Bible is prayer. It's essentially and simply "talking to God." And in that conversation comes an amazing humble step... "being second"... that is the secret to life and will unlock why God created you in the first place! Passage: Colossians 1:9-12
Growing always takes following: Following those who teach us. Follow those who counsel us. Following those who have wisdom. The apostle Paul reminds us WHY the greatest leader to follow is Jesus. And when you do, HE reveals what's most important: Who we truly are in Christ and what it takes to become more like HIM!!…
We invite Pastor Larry from New Salem Baptist Church in Tacoma to share some words with us.
We all have embarrassing moments we can laugh about—later. There are shameful moments that we would give anything to undo. But while our pasts remind us, they don’t have to define us.
Many times, our faith deteriorates as our circumstances deteriorate. When that happens, our faith is quickly overcome by fear, and the future looks dark. The apostle Peter experienced this, and he temporarily fled his faith in Jesus.
In Mark 10, Jesus addresses his disciples' desire for greatness and provides them with profound insights. He teaches that true greatness is not achieved through positions of power or authority, but rather through a servant-hearted attitude and a willingness to serve others. Jesus exemplifies this by emphasizing the importance of humility, as he states, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all." By shifting the disciples' understanding of greatness, Jesus challenges societal norms and encourages a radical transformation in their approach to leadership. He calls them to set aside self-centered ambitions and instead embrace a selfless love for others, thereby demonstrating the true nature of greatness in the Kingdom of God.…
Fear invites us to follow the path of self-preservation. However, if we follow that path long enough, we will neither preserve nor have anything to show for our lives. Jesus began to challenge the thinking and actions of his disciples in a far remote city outside of Israel. He gave them (and us) a "riddle about life" that when we gain an understanding in the contrarian words he spoke we surprisingly gain the key to purpose of life itself!…
From an early age, we learn quickly to look for loopholes in the rules. We try to figure out what we can get away with and still be okay. We tend to take this same mindset into our relationship with God, but it doesn’t work. When we opt for loopholes and workarounds, we find ourselves in a category no one wants to be in: hypocrites. Jesus calls us to move beyond loophole religion.…
Whether it’s school, sports, or religion, when we focus only on the rules, it can be difficult to remember the overall purpose of something. Jesus reminds us that when we focus so much on the letter of the law, we may forget why the law was written in the first place.
Jesus ignored certain religious protocols. He claimed to have authority to forgive sin. He was uncomfortably comfortable with unrepentant sinners. In this message, we hear about three encounters that showed Jesus came to reverse the order of things.
Many times we read the Bible for application, inspiration, or direction. However, there are times when the author wants to simply point the reader to a big idea—an idea that fits together with God's grand story. In the gospel of Mark, he documents Peter's experience with Jesus that led Peter to believe in one big idea: the kingdom of God is near, and everyone is invited to participate.…

Good decisions get us where we want to go, Godly decisions get us even farther in life. Wisdom is the bridge that fills the gaps from "Good to Great" (God decisions) when we're wondering what do to. Nobody likes being told what to do, but when we don't want advice it is often when we need it most.
Your decisions aren't just about you. They impact people closest to you as well for either the better or the worse. Jesus taught us that living life is connected with God. And the wisdom that God gives us is practical!! Applied Biblical wisdom ensures we live with that in mind.
