Acute inflammation is a good thing because it is the body's natural defense mechanism. When you get injured or have an infection, your immune system triggers inflammation to help heal tissues and fight off harmful invaders. This short-term response increases blood flow, brings immune cells to the area, and removes damaged cells—helping you recover quickly. What is the difference between acute inflammation and chronic inflammation? Chronic inflammation is harmful because it is a prolonged, low-grade immune response that doesn’t turn off. It can be triggered by poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, or underlying conditions. Over time, chronic inflammation damages healthy tissues, contributes to pain, and increases the risk of diseases like arthritis, heart disease, and even Alzheimer's. So, while acute inflammation is essential for healing, chronic inflammation can silently wreak havoc on your body. Managing stress, eating anti-inflammatory foods, and staying active are key to keeping inflammation under control.
