  • God’s mercies are miraculous.
  • Forgetting the wonders and mercies.

Provoking God

  • At the Red Sea, the fire and cloud went behind them.
  • The Egyptians couldn’t see them.
  • Despite this, they provoked God.
  • They challenged Moses, saying they were brought out to die in the wilderness.
  • People provoke God by being unbelieving.
  • Nevertheless, God commended His love.
  • Christ died for sinners.
  • God saved them because of His namesake, not because of them.
  • God will straighten people out even though they provoke Him.
  • God was sending a statement to the world that these are His people.
  • Moses was told to have the people stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.
  • Moses stretched the rod out over the water.
  • An east wind blew all night, parting the water.
  • They went across on dry ground.
  • Wondering what they felt like when they stepped out on the other side.
  • That feeling is in you.
  • Forgetting God’s wonders and mercies will provoke God.
  • You are not above sin.
  • He led them through the depths as through the wilderness.
  • He saved them from their enemies.
  • The waters covered their enemies.
  • Then they believed His words and sang His praise.
  • The very next verse, they got thirsty and hungry.
  • They are capable of forgetting the wonders and mercies of God.
  • The flesh is enmity to God.
  • The carnal nature wants nothing to do with God.
  • Something on the inside is working its way out.
  • The flesh did not get saved.
  • They got thirsty and hungry instead of remembering God.
  • They walked on the dry bottom of the sea with walls of water on both sides.
  • The first thing we do is go to the flesh to figure it out.
  • Lay burdens at His feet.
  • Remembering the walls of water, lift hands and thank God.
  • It may not be fixed yet, but it’s in God’s hands.
  • Lusted exceedingly in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert.
  • They wished they had been left in Egypt with fish, herbs, garlic, and onions.
  • That happened within days.
  • They forgot the water.
  • Every morning, except the Sabbath, they woke up to manna on the ground.
  • They gathered it and made bread.
  • One day did He not feed them.
  • They had no water and might as well be dead.
  • The point is that we sometimes put ourselves in a category that we are not like that.
  • Instead of believing God, we provoke Him.
  • Instead of trusting God, we take it upon ourselves.
  • He gave them food and water.
  • Korah, Dathan, and Abiram said Moses shouldn’t be in charge.
  • God told Moses to get away from them.
  • The earth opened up and they went straight down into the pit.
  • A fire started hunting everyone that had gone into Korah’s tabernacle.
  • There are times when He will save you in spite of yourself.
  • There are also times when His chastening hand will fall on those who refuse to repent.
  • David had been reading the words of Moses.
  • He said he was no better than they were.
  • He wants to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
  • They envied Moses.
  • God closed the one of them and burned them up dead.
  • There is wrath when you provoke Him.
  • They burned up all the gold and made a golden calf.
  • When we run away from God instead of to God, we will find trouble.
  • What have you put before God this week?
  • Inventory what you have invested for the kingdom versus your flesh.
  • There is something in front of you.
  • We need God today.
  • We need reminded of His wonders, mercy, grace, love, and care.
  • We pray, sing, and preach about it in the house of God.
  • We need reminded a lot.

Forgetting God

  • They forgot Him because they were not following Him or serving Him.
  • You will know a tree by its fruit.
  • The goodness of God ought to lead us to repentance.
  • Remembering His wonders, mercies, patience, long-suffering, and grace ought to lead us to repentance.
  • They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt.
  • Wonders worked in the breach to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
  • God sent out a plague.
  • Aaron ran and stood between the dead and the living.
  • They are still standing between you and the dead tonight.
  • There is judgment coming.
  • If you have not received Christ, that will be the one thing He is looking for.
  • If you are undone without God, He will say, depart.
  • The reason you are going to hell is not His fault.
  • He is just checking the book when you show up.
  • They forgot God their Savior.
  • They forgot the wondrous works.
  • They forgot the terrible wondrous things He did at the Red Sea.
  • They lifted up their voice and hand against Him to overthrow.
  • They angered Him again with their inventions, and a plague broke in among them again.
  • They were taking their children and offering them up in the fires.
  • God said, that’s it.
  • They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes.
  • Moses did not get to go to the promised land because of that.
  • They put that on Moses.
  • They did not destroy the nations.
  • They were mingled among the heathen.
  • They served their idols, which were a snare unto them.
  • They sacrificed their sons and daughters unto devils.
  • They shed innocent blood.
  • The wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people.
  • He abhorred His own inheritance.
  • He gave them into the hand of the heathen.
  • Their enemies oppressed them.
  • They were brought into subjection under their hands.
  • Many times did He deliver them.
  • He is still delivering us today.
  • If you are raising your kids and not bringing them to church and teaching them about the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God, you might as well throw them in the fire.
  • People are going to hell every day because nobody told them about Jesus.
  • He regarded their affliction when He heard their cry.
  • He remembered them for His covenant and repented according to the multitude of His mercies.
  • He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
  • David sums it up: Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen.
  • We have a whole lot to praise Him about tonight.
  • We do not even get praise right.
  • We are wrapped up in things of this world.
  • He lets us feel His Spirit.
  • Wake up knowing you need Him.
  • Remember His help today.
  • If you did anything right, He had to be in it.
  • We are apt to forget and wonder.
  • Save us, that we might earnestly lift our hands and praise your holy name.
  • Praise God unless the Holy Spirit is in you.
  • You have a right to praise God 24-7.
  • You do not feel like praising Him, but you owe Him.
  • He is worthy of it.
  • Some hold back.
  • When it was tough, we would not even slip our hand up and say, God, have been merciful to me.
  • There are times I do not even feel saved, and I have just got to lift my hands up and say thank you that I am anyhow.
  • It is not about what I feel, but it is about a Word that will stand when the world is on fire that has already declared that I am His.
  • Jesus loves you today.
  • He has never left you, even when you provoked Him.
  • He has regarded us very graciously.
  • He has taken care of us.
  • He has rescued us.
  • He has saved us.
  • David just had to say, Lord, we have sinned with our fathers just like them; we have sinned; forgive us.
