Since Pamela Cook's parents died, her uncle, Judge Edward Cook, has been her guardian. He is talking to her in his library about his latest bank statement. There was a check written for one thousand dollars, and he knows that Pamela forged his signature. The Judge tells her that he will not call the police, but instead take it out of her allowance. She has been receiving five hundred dollars per month, but will get nothing until the thousand dollars is paid back. Pamela starts crying, she tells the judge that she will be killed, because she owes the money to Kelly in the Shamrock Casino. She lost it playing roulette.
