An interview with Laurie Townshend, director of the documentary A Mother Apart, which is having it's West Coast premiere at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

Directed by Toronto’s Laurie Townshend, A Mother Apart accompanies powerhouse Jamaican-American poet and LGBTQ+ activist Staceyann Chin as she re-imagines the essential art of mothering—having been abandoned by her own mother.
To date, the film has been awarded Best Canadian Feature, Audience Award for Best Documentary and Best First Feature Award at the Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival in Toronto, Canada (2024).
