Phil speaks with Alice Grundy, Visiting Fellow, School of Literature, Language and Linguistics, Australian National University, to discuss the risks and rewards of quickly published books on major news, specifically focusing on the Erin Patterson "mushroom trial".
Two books about the trial were announced almost immediately after her guilty verdict, which is highly unusual for the publishing industry.
Typically, publishing is a slow process involving extensive editing (structural and copyediting, fact-checking), typesetting, proofreading, printing, and distribution – taking months to years.
