A Melbourne council’s decision to spend $370,000 on a 12-month private security trial has sparked backlash from locals who say it’s a waste of money.
Mike speaks with Gina Field, Operational Security Expert and Founder of Nepean Regional Security, who says mobile patrols are highly effective in reducing crime—especially in areas where police are stretched.
She stresses that private security isn’t a replacement for police, nor are they armed or making arrests. Instead, they provide a visible presence and work closely with police, helping speed up response times.
