Good morning from OWITH.ai: the podcast that gives you only what's important to hear in AI and tech world.Accenture has warned of a potential 11-fold surge in carbon emissions from AI data centers by 2030, with a projected 3.4% increase in global emissions over the next five years. Despite these warnings, big tech companies are racing to build AI data centers, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasizing the need for rapid expansion in the US to keep up with China in the AI race. The US government is also pushing for accelerated development of AI infrastructure, prioritizing growth over sustainability concerns. Accenture recommends responsible growth and engineering of AI data centers, introducing the Sustainable AI Quotient (SAIQ) to measure environmental impact. However, it is unclear if big tech companies will address sustainability concerns, with Google showing improvements in energy efficiency but still prioritizing expansion. Meanwhile, Chinese AI companies are challenging US dominance in the industry, with Meta rumored to be seeking to acquire Safe Superintelligence for $32 billion.Transitioning to our next news, Sana Javeri Kadri has spent a decade building a multi-million-dollar spice company called Diaspora Co. that is almost profitable. She sources spices from farmers in South Asia and focuses on quality and sustainability. Kadri's spices, such as turmeric and nutmeg, have unique flavors due to the region they are grown in. She has built her business around supporting farmers and ensuring the quality of the spices remains high. Despite the success of her company, Kadri is not currently interested in venture capital funding.Moving on to Microsoft's recent announcement of layoffs of approximately 9,000 employees representing just under 4% of its global workforce. This comes as the company continues to report strong financial results but seeks to streamline operations and adapt to changes in the technology landscape. The layoffs will impact sales, customer-facing roles, and the Xbox gaming division. In another development, CEOs are increasingly touting the amount of work being done by artificial intelligence (AI) within their companies. Leaders from companies like Salesforce, Microsoft, and Google claim that AI is now responsible for a significant portion of their work. This trend is seen as a way for companies to showcase their technological advancements and efficiency, potentially leading to cost-saving measures like future job cuts.Lastly, Amazon is investing $100 billion in data centers to build an "ultracluster" for its AI partner, Anthropics. Meta has unveiled smart glasses equipped with sensors for real-time data collection and processing. And that's all for today's episode. Stay tuned for more updates on AI and tech news.
