Dr. Phyllis used to struggle with being transparent, vulnerable, or truly authentic. In her mind, admitting that something hurt or disappointed her felt like exposing weakness. Saying it out loud made it real, and that was scary. So she kept things to herself, believing that staying silent was the strong thing to do.

But over time, she realized that holding it all in wasn’t strength—it was keeping her stuck. She couldn’t always communicate what she was feeling, and that led to a cycle of misperceptions. People saw resilience, but underneath it was exhaustion. So many women do the same thing, wearing this idea of resilience like armor, thinking that powering through means we’re okay.

That’s why Dr. Phyllis has made it her mission to help women be real—with themselves and with each other. Doing the work and taking that first step toward honesty is hard, but it changes everything. Because when you finally allow yourself to be transparent, you realize you’re not alone. Other women have been there. Other women are there.

Nobody gets it right all the time. We all have things we wish we’d done differently, but we also have things we’ve done well. Being open about the hard parts doesn’t make you less resilient—it makes you human. And when you stop carrying it all alone, you actually make room to refuel, refresh, and fill yourself with what truly matters.

Transparency isn’t a weakness. It’s a gift. And when one woman steps into it, she gives others permission to do the same.

Quotes from Today’s Episode:

"When you let go of this guard that you've had, this armor that you've had to build up, it allows you to get off of that treadmill and start refreshing and refueling."

“Being resilient doesn't mean that we're not human and we don't have fears or doubts or concerns or disappointments."
