“Iraq, but Funny” is enjoying its World Premiere at Lookingglass Theatre and plays through July 20th. It’s the story of 5 generations for Assyrian mother/daughter relations from the Ottoman empire to modern day USA but a story reclaimed by the women of their day, yet it’s told to us by a British guy (called The English Gentleman). Why? The answer is in the fascinating conversation with Atra Asdou, the playwright and a leading actor in the show. But Atra brings to the experience her years in comedy and improv, which she studied here in Chicago at Second City and IO.

How did the playwright work with director Dalia Ashurina and what was the creative process that led to the finished play? All of that addressed in the discussion right here.
