Matthew speaks with Erik Milosevich. He is a recently retired 25-year veteran of the Santa Monica Police Department. Before that, he was a sniper in a recon unit in the US Army. He is also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a Krav Maga instructor. During his tenure as a police officer, he became aware of the need for engaging in self care if he was to be an effective officer and a normally functioning individual. This led him down a path of training in yoga, breath work, meditation, and effective communication. He turned that information into training programs for the police department. He teaches such things as verbal deescalation, self defense, meditation, and the Wim Hoff Method breathwork technique. This is an interesting conversation on the culture of poor self care in professions like law enforcement and healthcare.
