Join us this week as we sit down with Darryn Melerine, a dedicated practitioner and an accomplished martial artist. Sensei Melerine’s journey in martial arts began in 1989 under the tutelage of Sensei Jack E. Garrett, a direct disciple of martial artists Jacques Lagrand and Frank Curtis. Through his studies in Minami Ryu Jujitsu, judo, and weapons training, Sensei Melerine developed a deep understanding of techniques rooted in practicality and effectiveness for real-life applications.Over the years, he has had the privilege to train and share the mat with some of the most renowned martial arts masters, including Gene LeBell (Judo/Grappling), Wally Jay (Small Circle Jujitsu), Carlos Machado (BJJ World Master's Champion), and Daniel Cormier (MMA World Champion), among others. Sensei Melerine’s dedication to martial arts has earned him a Godan in Minami Ryu Jujitsu and Budoshin Ju-Jitsu, recognized by international organizations like the American Jujitsu Association and the United States Jujitsu Federation. In 2022, he was honored with the title of “National Jujitsu Sensei” by the USA Unified Martial Arts Hall of Fame.As the head instructor of Minami Ryu Jujitsu and Zanshin Dojo in Mandeville, LA, Sensei Melerine regularly teaches classes, conducts seminars, and collaborates with martial arts organizations both domestically and internationally. He has also led self-defense and awareness seminars for law enforcement agencies, SWAT teams, military branches, and special forces.Sensei Melerine's continued dedication to martial arts and his relentless pursuit of excellence make him a highly respected figure in the global martial arts community.
